Privacy Policy

Salat is a free community prayer companion that shows the real jama’ah (congregation) times set by nearby masjids, and helps people, including children, learn how to pray. We built it as an ongoing charity for the community, and we treat your privacy as an amanah (trust). Salat has no accounts, no ads, and no tracking of any kind: no analytics, no advertising identifiers, and no user profiles.
What Salat is for
Praying in congregation is deeply rewarding, yet the real iqamah times set by each masjid’s committee are scattered across flyers, WhatsApp groups, and websites, and are often out of date. Salat exists to gather those times into one calm, trustworthy place so no one misses the jama’ah at the masjids they pray in. It is also a gentle teacher: it explains how each prayer is offered, rak’ah by rak’ah, along with the sunnah of the day and short du’as, written simply enough for children and new Muslims to learn from.
How Salat is different
Most prayer apps show times an algorithm has calculated. Salat instead shows the actual jama’ah times a masjid’s own committee has set, the times the congregation truly prays.
- It takes you to your masjid. Rather than only showing a calculated iqamah, Salat shows your masjid’s real jama’ah times and helps you get there, especially when you’re travelling or somewhere new and can’t find the local mosque. We’ve got you covered.
- You control your reminders. Choose which prayers to be notified for, and exactly how many minutes before the jama’ah you want the reminder.
- Themes for everyone. Pick a calm theme that you love, or one your child loves.
- Learn on the way. Teach your child a new sunnah each day, why the sunnah matters, and how many rak’ah belong to each prayer, a small lesson on the walk or drive to the masjid, and a gentle reminder for you too.
It is deliberately quiet: no feeds, no notifications begging for attention, no clutter. Just the times and the knowledge you need. Salat is for you, for your child, for everyone.
Why there are no ads, logins, or tracking
These are deliberate choices, not oversights:
- No logins or accounts. You should never need to sign up to know when to pray. Requiring no account also means we simply do not hold your identity, there is no profile of you to lose, sell, or leak.
- No ads. Worship should not be interrupted by, or paid for with, advertising. Ad networks almost always bring trackers with them; refusing ads keeps the app clean and keeps you unmonitored.
- No tracking. We have no wish to know who you are or to profile your habits. Your worship is between you and Allah. We keep the app free as a sadaqah jariyah (ongoing charity), not as a data business, so there is nothing to gain from watching you, and we don’t.
A note from us
Keeping Salat free of ads, fees, and tracking is our way of contributing to the masjid and the community. In time, we intend to open-source Salat and hand it to the community, so the community itself can keep improving it, for the community.
You don’t need to buy us a coffee. If Salat helps you reach the jama’ah, or helps your child learn to pray, please just remember us in your prayers. This app is for you, for your child, for everyone.
What we handle, and why
- Location. With your permission, your device location is used to find masjids near you and to sort them by distance. It is processed on your device. To estimate driving time to a masjid, your location and the masjid’s coordinates are sent to Apple Maps (MapKit), which handles them under Apple’s own privacy terms. We do not store your location on our servers and never use it to track or profile you. If you decline location access, the app still works; distances and drive times are simply hidden.
- Masjid schedules. The app downloads a read-only directory of masjids and their jama’ah times. This is an ordinary content download and does not identify you.
- Feedback you choose to send. The in-app options, Contact us, Suggest a masjid, Report a wrong time, Report a bug, send only what you type, plus basic diagnostics (app version, iOS version, device model) to help us respond. If you choose to include an email address so we can reply, that is entirely optional. Nothing is sent unless you tap send.
Who handles data
- Apple: standard iOS services and Apple Maps (MapKit) for drive-time estimates.
- Supabase: hosts the masjid directory and stores feedback you submit, on our behalf, protected to at least the standard described here.
Salat does not compute prayer times of its own. It shows the jama’ah times each masjid publishes, and where a masjid has not shared its times yet the app says so rather than showing an estimate. We do not sell data, and we share it with no one else.
Children & families
Salat is safe for all ages. Much of the app is designed to help children learn to pray: rak’ah guides, the sunnah of the day, and du’as. We do not collect personal information from anyone, including children, and there is no tracking or advertising in the app.
Keeping and deleting data
We do not retain your location. Feedback you send is kept only as long as needed to handle your request. To ask what we hold, to withdraw consent, or to request deletion, use Contact us or Report a bug inside the app (Settings → Help & support) and we will action it.
Consent
Location access is requested through the system prompt and can be changed anytime in iOS Settings. Sending feedback is voluntary, and by sending it you consent to our handling it as described here.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will appear here with a new date.
